I was the ellipsis in the middle of your forehead
when you discovered the dotted, dot. dot. dot.
dot.com lines, like Pac-Man breadcrumbs leading
to a sea of last minute text messages and gifs
repeating ships sailing off into the digital sunset. I was
the Supremes crooning about how suddenly it happens,
and what is it? It’s the light flickering on your tablet,
letting you know you’re still running on batteries. It’s
the way moonlight filters across the room, painting your
face like a ghost on Halloween looking for one last
good scare before waking up and flipping the circuit
breaker which puts the decorations away for the season.
